Patrick Eriksson was born May 3rd 1947 in Helsinki, graduated from the Helsinki Technical University 1971 and started his own practice 1979. Patrick Eriksson is the owner of Eriksson Architects Ltd. During more than 40 years of practice he has designed several commercial and industrial building projects as well as corporate headquarters and office buildings, numerous special buildings such as elderly homes, rehab centres, schools and dormitories, restaurants, cafés, golf club houses, jazz clubs, small boat harbours etc. Furthermore he has designed many renovations and restorations of old and historical buildings and also large housing areas in Finland and the Baltic Countries, both as urban planner and building designer.
Lately Eriksson has also worked with urban planning projects in China. As Chairman for the Nordic Building Forum 1992-2002 he worked in close cooperation with the building branch in all the Scandinavian countries. He managed the XVI and the XXI Nordic Building Conferences 1986 and 2001, both in the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki and both gathering more than 700 participants.
Eriksson has been involved in many research projects and he has also continuously given lectures in Finland and in other countries. He worked as a member of the editorial board of the encyclopaedia “Uppslagsverket Finland” 2001-06 (in Swedish), and he has written numerous articles for books and the building branch press.
Eriksson was awarded a shared first prize in the Finnish Milieu 2000 Competition (1990) and both he and his team have won several prizes in national and international architectural competitions as well as in design & built competitions. In 2004 Eriksson was awarded the Finnish Association of Architects’ (SAFA) Honorary Award and also the Finnish Award for Sustainable Stone Building.
In 2008 Eriksson started the ERIARC FORUM with a research & development program for sustainable development and Eco-Cities. The work is still in progress and several results are already implemented in different projects.
