Description
Pöyry Finland has designed for Holiday Club a spa hotel and recreation centre in Åre, the largest downhill skiing resort in Sweden. The design and implementation was made in cooperation with Åre’s local authorities and business associations. The objective was to accomplish year-round activity services in the area. For this purpose, a new town plan was initially created with the help of Pöyry.
The whole project includes a multipurpose hall, a spa, and several indoor activity facilities, such as bowling, mini-golf, cafeterias, restaurants and conference centre housing 3000 people as well as a high quality hotel with 157 rooms. Between events the conference centre will serve as a sports hall with fields for tennis, badminton, volleyball and floorball.
Tight timetable and difficult environmental circumstances gave their own challenges for the design and building solutions. The sensitive surrounding landscape was dealt with respect.
We have been actively engaging in the further development of the area. The first phase of the hotel extension consisted in 55 new rooms and the second phase of 45 new rooms (ca. 2 000 sq.m.)
