Svendborg has an exemplary vision of a green and super sustainable town. It has a vision that enhances awareness of consumption and resources, and finally a vision which enshrines the architectural quality, individuality, spaciousness, light and room to roam.
This project called the Core Houses (Kernehusene) seeks, with its high energy class and sustainable approach, to combine pragmatism and poetry – the rational and the beautiful - in order to create responsible buildings and outdoor areas, which can actively participate in the physical design of Svendborg's green vision.
The building lies like a patchwork blanket upon the ground, which varies through long peeks, recesses, vegetation and useful functions and activity areas. The district's squares and roads lie scattered in housing and is intended as a multi use area for sports, games and parking.
The project is based on a clear sustainable strategy that combines soft, green initiatives with energy optimization, rational construction engineering and prefabrication, and show that the combination of these elements, doesn’t have to be at the expense of the wishes for sociable low-energy class 2015 - architecture.
