Frescati Campus is a campus environment in the true sense and Akademiska Hus is continuously developing the area for Stockholm University. The environment around Allhuset, Aula Magna and Södra Huset is shabby and down at heel and not fit for purpose. We have worked in workshops and produced a mission statement for our work: Frescati Campus is an inviting, innovative and creative meeting place. An inspiring global arena with a strong identity and boundless opportunities for exchanges through constant flows of knowledge. Our intention is to recognise this at all times and through analysing the existing architecture and spatialities, we have found a way of preserving the qualities and adding a new temporal layer that is an expression of the contemporary period. Today knowledge is based on meetings and exchanges, and we have therefore chosen to more clearly define six meeting places that have their own identity, without distorting David Helldén’s, Ralf Erskine’s or Carl Nyrén’s buildings.
