The High Tech Center is located in what was once a dock yard, beside an old cable factory near sea shore. The whole area was transformed into a mixed-use of housing, prestigious offices and schools for art and media. The urban planning of Ruoholahti has been cited worldwide as a fine example of urban re-development.

The main design idea for the High Tech Center was to recall the derricks that once where on the local wharfs. The vibrant colours are part of this industrial shipyard world and give a spicy touch to the landscape. The complex is highly visible from the water and incoming bridges. HTC is now housing Finland’s most dynamic high tech companies, for instance F-Secure, which occupies most of Building A.

HTC Helsinki was awarded the ECCS Steel Design Award 2003 by European Convention for Constructional Steelwork.
