Balancing historic preservation with the demands of new uses is never an easy task; Grand Casino in Helsinki solves these two with great success. Designed by Pöyry Finland and Las Vegas casino conceptual designer, Paul Steelman, the new casino occupies over 2 500m² on two floors in historic landmarks of central Helsinki.

We are proud to have realized the concept for “the world’s first digital casino” in harmony with the character of the Nikolajeff House and the old venerable Fennia restaurant. Given that Fennia’s grand interior was more significant than that of Nikolajeff’s, the latter was excavated from the basement down to house the main gaming and additional technical spaces. Fennia will house the casino’s fine dining, some gaming, and performance spaces.

Two of the most significant elements of this digital casino are the very large digital wall, over 40m² of display area, and several hundred meters of color changing walls and ceilings. The mood within the casino can be refashioned at will. When it is dark and rainy outside it can be a bright colourful summer day in the casino. It is an exciting addition to the city.
