The park along Norr Mälarstrand is highly appreciated and intensively used. It is one of Stockholm's best-preserved parks from the 40's and is one of the finest examples showcasing Swedish landscape architecture. In the 1940's and 50's it was a stylistic ideal for the design of parks, which also captivated international attention. The park was in need of refurbishment and to accommodate larger numbers of visitors/users.

The need for intervention had been identified at an early stage regarding embankments, bridges, walkways and pavements, playgrounds, seating, lighting and rejuvenation of the park's stock of birches. An important starting point for the program is that any action and change must blend with the park's original design and the initial ideas that underpinned the park’s original design.

The aim of the restoration of Norr Mälarstrands park is to preserve and develop its cultural historical values while enhancing and improving the content, usability and management.
